For the last five years, IHCA-NJ has organized ‘Natya-Darpan’ a multilingual short play festival in New Jersey. Many highly acclaimed and award-winning U.S. based theater groups performed exceptionally high quality short plays in Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, and English. IHCA-NJ invites scripts in any languages from prominent theater groups as well as newly emerging theater groups. The selection committee involves highly accomplished actors, directors, and writers from the U.S. and India. Short listed selected scripts are them invited to audition in New Jersey, from which we choose the final 6-8 short plays for Natya Darpan.
Natya Darpan is a showcase, not a completion. We give complete freedom to the director to present and establish their creative thoughts. IHCA-NJ prefers an out of the box concept and interesting message when selecting the scripts at Natay Darpan, rather than sets or props.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Natya Darpan 20 was postponed. However, with encouragement from the Consulate General of India, New York, the Indian Heritage & Cultural Association hosted a virtual short play festival ” Vibrations” via Zoom and Facebook live, where short plays in Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, English, Bengali and Kannada were presented by outstanding local theater groups. Vibrations received an overwhelming response from an audience from the U.S. as well as from India.
